Degrees of Comparison




                Degrees of Comparison are used when we compare one person or one thing with another. There are three Degrees of Comparison in English, i.e. positive degree, comparative degree, and superlative degree.
1.       Positive degree
When we speak about only one person or thing. We use positive degree of comparison.
Pattern  :  subject + to be + as + adjective + as + noun
Example : Mitha is as beautiful as her sister

2.       Comparative degree
When we compare two persons or two things with each other. We use comparative degree of comparison.
a.       Pattern : subject  + to be +more + adjective + than + noun
Example : my sister is more beautiful than my mother
b.      Pattern : subject  + to be + adjective + er + than + noun
Example : ula is taller than rafa

3.       Superlative degree
When we compare more than two persons or things with one another, we use superlative degree of comparison.
a.       Pattern : subject + to be + the + most + adjective + noun
Example : this flower is the most beautiful in this garden
b.      Pattern : subject + to be + the + adjective + est + noun
Example : this is the biggest house in this housing
